Australia’s first V2G bi-directional charger
~ Coming 2025 ~

Charge your home with your car

In an Australian-first, RedEarth has partnered with ambibox to manufacture bidirectional chargers that will enable electric cars to act as batteries on wheels. The chargers will enable EV owners to charge or discharge their EVs to their home or to the grid.

No solar or home battery system? No worries.

With the breakthrough technology of V2G DC EV chargers, you don’t need solar, a BESS (battery energy storage system), or to even own your own home to take advantage of battery power—your car will do the work for you.

Energy trade with your car

EV owners will be able to use their cars as a Private Power Plant, meaning opportunities to use additional revenue streams to power the grid and reduce their reliance on grid electricity, putting the power and control back into the customer’s hands.

FAQs

We expect the certified three-phase bidirectional charger to be available for installation in Australia by the end of June 2025. The certified single-phase bidirectional charger will likely be available for installation in Australia by late 2025.

The prices for the chargers will be advised in Q2/2025 (three phase) and Q4/2025 (single phase), respectively.

ambibox has completed official testing with Ford, VW (for its soon to be released ID.Buzz), and Polestar, and  its own successful testing with the likes of the Hyundai Ioniq 5, the BYD Atto 3, the MG4, BMW i4, Audi, and even the Tesla Model Y.

Unfortunately, our charger will initially only be available with CCS2 connector. Dependent on market demand we might consider making a CHAdeMO version available but there are currently no plans for this.

Yes, the chargers will be integrated into PPP and capable of participating in wholesale markets through selective retailers (such as Amber or LocalVolts).

They will be sold through existing channels and established charger channels.

RedEarth will announce relationships with car manufacturers when appropriate.

We will provide a training and certification pathway to qualify our existing installer and reseller base to sell and install these chargers. Expect to see more about this in early 2025.

The first available charger will be a three-phase 11 kW charger (late Q2/2025), followed by a 7.4 kW single-phase charger (late Q4/2025), and a commercial 22 kW three-phase charger (2026). We will provide more detailed information on the chargers early in 2025.

Some car manufacturers have already allowed for the use of bidirectional charging in the warranty of their EVs and specifically the batteries in these cars. Others may not have done so yet. This is especially true for older EVs. While we believe the use of bidirectional charging at the levels of the chargers we will be supplying (7.4 kW, 11 kW, and 22 kW) generally has significantly lower impact on battery health than normal driving would, some car manufacturers might not share our view and might block bidirectional charging.

Yes, RedEarth will manufacture the chargers at our factory in Brisbane, Australia.
